The Holdrege Housing Authority (HHA) was created to fill the need for affordable elderly/handicapped/disabled housing in Holdrege in 1976 with a loan from Housing and Urban Development. The money was used to construct 48 one-bedroom garden apartments on a tract of land on the east side of Holdrege – hence the name Sunrise View.
Because the apartments are affordable, well-run, neat and attractive there were seldom vacancies, so in 2007, the HHA determined there was sufficient need to justify the construction of a second phase, Sunrise East, consisting of 16, 1,100 sq. ft., two-bedroom apartments with attached one-car garages for low-income individuals, aged 55 or older. Completed in 2008, this phase was also quickly filled.
Seeing the need for additional units remained, the Holdrege Housing Authority started construction of Sunrise Lane in 2011. Sunrise Lane consists of 18, 1,100 sq. ft., two-bedroom apartments with attached one-car garages for low-income individuals aged 55 years or older. There is also a beautiful community room available for resident use.
