HDC is awarded a Rural Workforce Housing Grant
posted: May 22, 2018
Holdrege Development Corporation was informed Monday by Nebraska Economic Development Department (NEDED) that HDC was awarded the LB518 (Rural Workforce Housing Grant).
Though $500,000 was requested, HDC was awarded the amount of $319,500.
There were a total of 21 applications across Nebraska submitted and Holdrege Development Corporation was awarded those funds.
Phelps County Development Corporation (PCDC) has also committed $250,000 towards this project along with Nebraska Investment Finance Authority (NIFA) committing $250,000.
This Workforce Housing will be built on the 10 acres owned by Holdrege Housing Authority on 11th Avenue and East Street alongside the new tax credit project that was awarded to Holdrege Housing Authority.
This is a first in the history of both Holdrege Housing Authority and Holdrege Development Corporation: both agencies being awarded within the same year.
"This represents part of HHA/HDC's next 'five year vision'", Ms. Chapman says.
She is working off of the 2017 Phelps Housing Study for Phelps County. As indicated before, if the program is moving forward and as long as there is available state/federal funding, she will apply for those funds.
Ms. Chapman is on the Nebraska State Board of Housing and was recognized for the 2017 Leadership award for Nebraska Housing. In 2018, she also received a recognition from the Holdrege Chamber of Commerce for her dedication to housing in the Holdrege area.
Her goal is to put the City of Holdrege on the map in recognition from the State of Nebraska for outstanding growth in rural development.
